8,000 Glowing Balloons Recreate the Berlin Wall

As Germany celebrates this, an amazing art installation is in Berlin. Wish I could get there to see it – i’ve been there twice, once in 1987 (before it fell) and once in 1992 (right after). Very strange on the second visit how it had immediately changed and the desolation at the center of the city between the two sectors – i’m sure much, much more has changed since …. Such a cool city – can’t wait to go back again….!

Enjoy and congrats, Germany.

if we can’t keep drones out of the skies with laws and or bottle rockets – hawks may have to step up – as we say in Seattle – Go Hawks! 🙂

Bike MS – we made it!

Sun ,07/09/2014

We just got back this afternoon from our 4th year of Bike MS (hosted over the weekend in Mt Vernon, WA)! This year we did the 59 miler on Sat (per usual) but then opted for the shorter 26 miler on Sunday. Great weather both days, sunny, clear and good riding. And always great to catch up with our team (Crankin’ for a Cure) – our team captain’s mother has MS, and she shows up every year to cheer us on, very inspiring!

Looking forward to next year – thanks to all our donors!

Again…..Hells no!

The answer is still NO. As in HELL NO. As in NO WAY, Mr Foster! I wouldn’t even make it up half the stairs, I’m sure….

Big…..kitties!

Mon ,30/12/2013

Came across this today, apparently I’m late to the game (big surprise) as its been viral on YT for some time. This researcher put a high-res camera on a small remote control 4wd car and then drove it into the sleeping area of some wild lions. The male appears interested but the females seem REALLY interested…..just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how big the cat – they are doomed to curiosity about everything.

One wonders if you put a huge paper bag by them…. 🙂

Brrrr!

Sat ,19/10/2013

So, we were originally planning a kayaking day trip today, and in researching locations last night, I came across possibly kayaking around Port Townsend/Indian Island over on the Olympic Peninsula. However, this morning I kinda got cold feet, namely because we don’t have much cold weather kayak gear (yet) and it just seemed smarter to do a bike ride in that area instead.

While the ride ended up being one of our tougher rides to date, it was prescient NOT to go kayaking today. We got out there and while not raining, it was very foggy and cold for nearly all the ride. Which would have been much worse on the water, to be sure – the coldest parts of the ride were the parts nearest to water! But this was definitely the foggiest ride I’ve ever done, and the temp’s were likely between 40-48F the whole time…brr! Plus, while most cars were very courteous, there were a few driving without lights, which seemed somewhat nuts considering the lack of visibility in places.

You can see a map of our ride here. It was slightly over 20 miles round trip – saw several deer out there, including 3 just at the edges of Port Townsend right when we began. Also saw lots of birds and at least one likely eagle, although with the fog it was hard to tell – it was BIG, though.

Lessons learned – wear ski socks, maybe one more layer of clothing, and bring more hot drinks! 🙂

Sad, but that’s the rules!
